Plans have been lodged with East Ayrshire Council for two floodlit padel courts on the site of a derelict multi-use games area beside the Galston roundabout.

The application, reference 26/0266/PP, proposes courts built on a raised metal decking system, enclosed by six-metre mesh and tempered glass panels, with adjustable floodlighting on poles at each corner.

The site has stood unused for several years. Drawings submitted with the application show the existing surface cleared and replaced, with the playing area set out to the standard twenty by ten metre padel dimensions.

Padel has grown quickly across Scotland in the last few years, and the sport's governing body has been encouraging clubs to convert redundant hardstanding rather than build from scratch.

The application was validated on 26 June. A decision is due by 25 August, and the plans are available to view in full on the council's planning portal.
